I have been trying to create my own bicycle speedometer, starting by studying and working on it from time to time. I have completed a basic program and finished designing the PCB. What is still missing is assembling everything, creating an appealing case, and other improvements. The program, in particular, requires significant improvement.
My idea behind developing everything on my own was to remain open to all needs and ideas. Additionally, I would like to connect a navigation system from my smartphone to the speedometer via Bluetooth. My current idea is to receive notifications from Google Maps and transfer them to the speedometer. The speedometer would then count meters down from the given GPS position and provide basic directional arrows for navigation.
I'm aware that there are already speedometers with these functions available on the market, but they tend to be expensive and often have screens that are not easy to read in bright sunlight. I don't want to rely on my smartphone for this because I would need to mount it on the bicycle each time, and the battery would drain quickly at maximum brightness. The display I've chosen to use is the Nokia 5110 Display.
I'm far from being an expert in this field and would be grateful if someone out there would like to collaborate on this project. Especially when it comes to programming, I could use a companion.
